The Department of Social Services and Social Mediation met last week with groups working with immigrants, in order to prepare a joint programming of awareness actions to be developed on the International Day of Migrants, held on 18 from December.
The mayor of Social Services, Carmen Martín del Amor, recalled that for several years have been celebrating in Cartagena, through the entities working in the field of immigration, many activities focused on the commemoration of this day.
What we are aiming for is that all the actions carried out contribute to sensitize the population and give visibility to the work carried out by these groups and the importance of volunteering.
In this way we want to foster an inclusive and non-exclusive coexistence that gives way to a society free of racist prejudices and attitudes, said Martín del Amor.
Fifty entities participated in the meeting, of which about ten are migrants from countries such as Ecuador, Morocco, Mali and Ghana.
Also attended by Youth and Equality technicians, and of different programs and municipal services related to the improvement of coexistence in our municipality.
Among these associations are Accem, Cepaim, Alraso, Murcia Acoge, Caritas La Palma, Rascasa, Caritas San Diego, Columbares and intercultural centers of the Immigration Unit of Social Services.
Among the proposals made for the celebration are projections in the cinema-forum format, awareness-raising and reflection workshops, intercultural celebrations, percussion courses, musical and sports activities with youth and minors, photo exhibitions, testimony tables and readings of migratory stories.
