MC will propose, for discussion and approval in the next plenary, two initiatives aimed at meeting the needs of the taxi sector.
On the one hand, it will request to urge the CARM Governing Council to adopt the legal measures that allow taxi drivers in the municipality of Cartagena, as well as the localities of the Cartagena Field and the entire Region, if they so request, to provide Freely its services in the international airport of the Region of Murcia, located in Corvera and, therefore, pertaining to the region of the Field of Cartagena.
This proposal has been communicated to Radiotaxi Cartagena during the briefing that the president of this association Eusebio Rodríguez and other associates with the president of MC, Jesus Giménez and the coordinator of Neighborhoods and Provincials of MC, Enrique Perez, have maintained this morning.
Corvera airport
"The fact that this infrastructure has been conceived from the regional level and has an international vocation advises this free provision of services of all taxi drivers, thus preventing new licenses being granted in other municipalities regarding the future opening," he remarked The president of MC, who added that, with this, in addition, "an increase in the activity of those who, in times of scarcity, maintain their public service activity in an exemplary way."
"We would not understand that this important infrastructure will be used to unravel the region even more," said Jesús Giménez. "We hope that all professionals who have been able to withstand the current delicate situation can enjoy the activity generated at an international airport."
Similarly, Giménez has moved the sensitivity of the Cartagena formation to "the problem that day to day taxi workers face, a sector that in Cartagena has been oversized by unsustainable policies (currently there are about 250 licenses In the city), firing the number of licenses that now face a much lower demand than those of times of boom. "
In another vein, MC congratulates the local Government for the establishment of a Working Table with all taxi associations and municipal groups with representation in the Corporation for the approval, in the near future, of the new municipal ordinance.
Likewise, MC expresses its concern and solidarity with a sector that faces important expenses of maintenance and update of its equipment and vehicles in a situation of absence of work load.
In this sense, MC hopes that the new regulation will allow a better development of the activity, wishing to comply with regulations such as the 'Eurotaxi';
Vehicles adapted for people with disabilities in which the previous Corporation did not repair nor showed any interest despite the fact that the regulations have been in force since 2007.
Feasibility plan for the taxi sector
Finally, MC will also propose to the Plenary that a feasibility plan for this sector be carried out by the local administration in collaboration with the taxi associations.
The objective would be to know with real parameters the current situation and to put into effect formulas of amortization of licenses, linked to the retirement of the workers of the sector, and any other measure that are beneficial for the taxi drivers of our municipality can increase their activity And improve the service, as demanded by the above motion.
