The Working Committee on Water Tariff has met today Friday, November 11, to analyze a fairer system of costs that affect citizens and companies for this service.
The working table was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, José López, the Councilor for Finance, Isabel García, and representatives of different municipal groups, such as Francisco Espejo, Manuel Padín and Pilar Marcos;
Business entities and neighborhoods, along with the concessionaire company, Hidrogea.
López has indicated that at the beginning of the meeting there has been a small discussion on the publication of water costs, since the concessionaire does not want to be known, for which the mayor has argued that any sensitive information has to be public, Since it is the citizens who pay this municipal water service.
While the publication of these water costs is being solved, the table is moving forward in the proposal of compensatory tariff studies, focused on both income and activity, and are more just for users.
In this way, according to the mayor, it would take into account the existence of dependent people inside the house, the number of people that inhabit, the income of each one, whether large family or not, water sections or activity Business, hospitality, hotel or industry.
The first mayor has said that the company will put on the table before the next meeting different tariff studies of how they do in other cities like Malaga, which has compensatory systems.
This proposal of the Water Table is to be able to assess the cost of the service and that each user pays what corresponds.
The company proposes a drop of something more than two percent on the service, whose deadline for application is not yet stipulated.
What we have to advance is in knowing the real cost of the service, added the mayor.
Another issue that has been discussed, according to López, is to apply correction vectors, see the consumption of water and adjust the receipt of water every three months to make it much more real.
The water table has an advisory nature, its purpose is to put experiences in common and provide proposals by all members to reach consensus, as the final system that is applied is the usual procedure and approved by the full City Council.
