The mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, attended Monday the presentation of the second phase of corrective actions risk of flooding in the south of the Mar Menor, which is aimed at collecting episodes of torrential rains in the environment Los Grandchildren.
The project, presented by the Minister of Water, Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cacho, was carried out by the Autonomous Community.
The first phase is being developed since September in Mar de Cristal, the first area to be treated according to the criteria of flooding.

The mayor, Jose Lopez, expressed his wish that the Autonomous Community to enter as soon as possible the works and reduce the maximum execution time, in order to respond to neighbors and prevent that water runoff reaches the Mar Menor.
The expenditure of the project, worth 3 million euros through and, assume the Community of Irrigators Arco Sur, as has reminded the mayor, main beneficiaries of these works.
The second phase of the project consists of a rolling process and retention through the installation of 6 rafts, a naturalized lagoon and seven performances pipeline with a capacity to store 300 thousand cubic meters of water.
The duration of implementation is estimated to be twelve months and will start following the submission of the simplified environmental assessment by the Community needed to start work.
The mayor has requested that this initiative will work and there are no more discharges to the Mar Menor, at least for the runoff.
