Wednesday, technical director, David Cervantes, and the vet Reception Centre and Treatment of Domestic Animals of the City of Cartagena (CATAD), accompanied by two recently abandoned dogs, visited the Center for Senior Day of Sorrows.
The day began with a talk on the CATAD and its work by its director, starting with the different processes of capture, deworming and vaccination of animals, sterilization if they have more than six months, and subsequent adoption.
He also explained to the largest of the Day Centre, the correct pet ownership, ie, feeding, grooming and education, with special emphasis on the connection between dog and human, and the compulsory introduction of chip identification .
After this talk, has started the session participation of older persons in the care of two abandoned in the CATAD, dogs available for adoption.

CATAD own veterinarian showed them identification processes by color, sex, size and age estimation according to the teeth.
Rewarding them with canine sweets and caresses, all older dogs have known, obtaining the benefits of contact with pets.
One of the biggest that has enjoyed this experience has been Andrew, in whose lap was asleep his new grandchild, a puppy mestizo who have dubbed Chiqui.
In the words of David Cervantes, animal assisted therapy is widely studied;
contact with an animal, as we have been seeing here today, can have many benefits.
From the physical point of view, we force the person to have to take a walk the dog, and may also feel needed to provide care, enjoying delcariño returning it.
CATAD director has also shown its intention to repeat the experience in other major centers of the city, as every year is done with several schools in Cartagena.
The visit ended with the distribution of brochures, summarizing the previous talk, and deposits of bags for those who have pets, keep the hygiene of the streets of Cartagena, focusing once again on latenencia responsible for animals and good pet care.
This activity is part of a program to support social partners that the company GAIA SL, manager CATAD, has launched with the aim of coordinating collaboration with associations and (public and private) centers for the elderly, disabled or socially isolated, to carry out projects animal-assisted therapy and thus encourage an improvement in their physical, cognitive, social and / or emotional functioning.
