The area councilor for Culture and Heritage, Ricardo Segado, represent the city of Cartagena in the eleventh annual meeting of the International Association of Cities and Entities of the Enlightenment (AICEI) held in the Portuguese city of Covilha from 13 to 15 October.
The main theme of the event is Knowledge and mercantilism.
During the congress various conferences and exhibitions will be held.
In addition, participants in the meeting will enjoy visits to the historic center of Covilha or the Royal Textile Factory, as well as a show of historical recreation.
YEAR OF ILLUSTRATION IN CARTAGENA
Ricardo Mowing recalled that Cartagena held in 2017 the Year of the Enlightenment, having much to contribute both in terms of heritage and association level.
Thus, he said the mayor, we attended the meeting with the intention of bringing us many ideas and proposals.
Similarly, Segado has indicated that the intention of the City Council is that this conference be held next year in Cartagena.
THE WORK OF THE AICEI
The AICEI, which Cartagena is part, aims to promote knowledge and protection inherited from the eighteenth century with projection and reflection in the society of the twentieth century tangible and intangible heritage.
This partnership is a meeting point for the cities created and developed during the Enlightenment, inspired by the functionality of its design and the rationality of its buildings, whether treated cities naval, courtier, commercial origin or stocking .
ANNUAL MEETING
Annually, the Association held a meeting vertebrate by a central theme around which it develops and which reflects, is investigated and contributions on one or more specific aspects of the Enlightenment movement are made from a scientific point of view, academic and experimental.
Thus, each city or organizer chooses the reason for the meeting and is responsible for preparing the conference, as well as select experts and show in practice aspects of their heritage.
The scientific and academic conferences and meetings are public meetings, allowing greater dissemination of its contents.
CARTAGENA, SEAT OF AN EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION
In this sense, and for the forthcoming meeting to be held in Covilha, the Palace Hall of Cartagena hosted last May an extraordinary meeting of the AICEI.
During this meeting, among other issues, a website of the Association was presented and a network of exchanges of cultural actions AICEI was created, also confirming the new collaborated partners such as the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos and Valencia .
In addition to Cartagena, the Spanish cities represented in this forum have been Barcelona, ​​Valencia and Ferrol, which have been joined by the Portuguese Vila Real de Santo António, Covilha and Coimbra.
Representatives of the cities that make up the association conducted a tour of the facilities of the Town Hall, in addition to knowing the rich cultural heritage of the city of Cartagena, including inheritance illustrated the time of Charles III.
