The City of Cartagena has received today, October 6, visiting international partners MAPS project (Military Assets as Public Spaces) which is responsible for the rehabilitation of military spaces abandoned socially disadvantaged enaéreas and local level, studying recovery the Moorish Castle and the Los Mateos.
These experts have participated in a seminar which was held these days in the city with the aim of establishing a Comprehensive Action Plan with the lines of action to be followed to rehabilitate the Moorish Castle with the participation of the people in the neighborhood of Los Mateos and the possible use can be given to fortification.
The mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, held a meeting with representatives of European cities that make up this project and experts appointed by the European Commission and then shared with the media the progress of the project in Cartagena this morning.
Accompanying the mayor has been Antonio Garcia, manager of the municipal company Casco Antiguo, responsible for coordinating the MAPS project in Cartagena;
and Luca Lanzoni, architect and expert appointed by the European Union.
The mayor has said that since the government team of the City of Cartagena is committed to unpatrimonio and a neighborhood that historically were abandoned.
To do this, Jose Lopez, said they have managed to find the right door in Europe to help this cartagenero neighborhood.
Lopez has also highlighted the value of the interaction between the cities that make up the project because of this cross-communication and sharing of the problems of each city can be given to solving common problems.
Maps development project in Cartagena is done with an approximate amount of 90,000 euros from the European Union.
The City Council joined last year to this project which also includes the cities of Piacenza, Varazdin, Szombathely, Espinho, Koblenz, Longford, Serres and Telsiai.
The Maps project is divided into phases and the first of them was identified as the ideal space to act the Moorish Castle and the Los Mateos.
Currently the project is in its second phase that began last June and will end in June 2018. During this phase are gathering in some of the participating cities and the meeting that was held these days in Cartagena has been analyzed, according to Garcia, how to develop the interest of all stakeholders implicadosen such a process.
The next meeting will be in Koblenz, Germany, where he will discuss how to rehabilitate military space temporarily.
Finally, Luca Lanzoni praised the Cartagena project as a perfect example of the Maps main objective of the project because it is part of the European field of social cohesion and seeks recovery patrimoniounido regeneration and social cohesion.
LOCAL WORKING GROUP OF MAPS
The local working group that developed the MAPS project in Cartagena compose various institutions and entities such as the City of Cartagena itself through Mayor, the area of ​​Culture and Heritage, the Department of Social Services and historic center;
AFORCA (Veterans Association Friends Cartageneros Castles);
UPCT (Polytechnic University of Cartagena), the Chamber of Commerce;
COEC;
Cartagenero Institute of Historical Studies;
as well as charities working in Los Mateos as Rascasa and the Phoenix Group.
These components has recently joined him the General Directorate of Cultural Property.
