Corporate Social Responsibility improves the competitiveness of the company, according to a thesis UPCT (04/10/2016)

"Increases the innovative flow to respond to new social challenges and find new market niches", argue the researchers at the Faculty of Business

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has a "positive impact on company performance, both quantitatively financial results, and qualitatively, in the brand image in customer satisfaction or the dropout rate of workers "argues the thesis of Eduardo Gómez Melero at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT).

His research, conducted by Professor Carmelo Reverte and Juan Gabriel Cegarra, has concluded from surveys of 133 companies in the region of Murcia, that CSR improves the competitiveness of companies and "increases its innovative flow, in responding, with new and better products and services to new social challenges, "says the author of the thesis, Dr. yesterday by the UPCT.

"Consider approaches to social and environmental commitment to find new markets and a competitive strategy itself," adds Gomez Melero.

The companies surveyed adhered all the Social Pact for the Environment, responded to 27 indicators related to CSR such as reconciling work and family life, improving the quality of life of employees, the quality of products, commitment to job creation, respect for the rights of consumers, interaction and dialogue with key stakeholders, and the introduction of procedures that contribute to environmental preservation.

"In the field of small and medium enterprises, CSR is still largely unknown and perceived, in many cases, as an expense rather than as an investment," say Reverte and Cegarra, professors at the Faculty of Sciences Business.

"We believe that SMEs may be able to exploit new niche markets for products and services that incorporate social and environmental benefits and, thus, achieve competitive differentiation" point.

One of derivative works of the thesis was awarded at the XVIII Congress of the Spanish Association of Accounting and Business Administration (AECA).
