The student, already entitled, Master of Civil Engineering and Ports of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Nowicz Dorota has developed during his final graduate work early warning system to prevent floods in the Segura basin.
The tool predicts the flow will move through the river according to the forecast of rain in a model that also takes into account soil characteristics.
"Broadening the investigation might anticipate possible damage that would generate caused by torrential rain episodes avenue" said Professor Antonio Vigueras Rodriguez, who co-led the work with Luis Altarejos.
"The model was prepared for the section of Guadalentín upstream reservoir Puentes, but could be extended to the whole basin," says the author of the study, who presented his research at the recent seminar Laboratory Network Hydraulic Spain held at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
Dorota, a Polish national, arrived in 2014 to Cartagena as Erasmus student and is currently a Fellow of the Chair Hidrogea-UPCT and is working in the offices of Emuasa in a panel of water unregistered and looking how to use the energy of the water flow for charging mobile.
"I could introduce me to the Network bid Chairs like any other student," he recalls.
"In Cartagena and Murcia I feel at home.
People have always helped me and I have never felt alone "said the young engineer, he hopes to stay in the region or working or doing a PhD.
"I really like the way to teach UPCT, attitude and closeness of their teachers, who took me longer when not fluent in Spanish and made the language was not a problem, and how to apply information technology in Civil Engineering.
Everything I've learned programming I am now applying in Emuasa "he says.
