Traditionally it has been thought to have many plants in an enclosed area could be counterproductive to the quality of the oxygen of stay.
However, researchers at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) as Jesus Ochoa, the Department of Plant Production, are showing the opposite by placing a vertical garden at the headquarters of Telenatura, a spin-off University.
According to the teacher, this type of gardens can have biofilter capacity, ie air-purifying office.
For this purpose they are based on several studies that determine which indoor plants improve air quality and mood of people.
"Plants release oxygen during the day and sequester CO2," adds professor UPCT clarifying that C02 is precisely the vegetation needed to perform photosynthesis.
"When we are in a closed office air it is necessary to regenerate the air and expel the C02, but if we plant them can help in this task," he says.
And, as he adds, there are certain elements in an office that can pollute the environment because of what they generate such as printers and computers.
"Plants are a filter prevention public health," he says.
So far this experiment being conducted with the collaboration of Telenatura.
In the vertical garden that have installed and which have automated irrigation, have planted native varieties such as fern or cumula ficus.
Do not rule extend this practice by other buildings and areas of the university to promote the self-esteem of workers and oxygenate the atmosphere.
