Improving the flow of traffic and pedestrians in La Manga.
This is the aim of the research on urban mobility that addresses the researcher with the Department of Civil Engineering of the Polytechnic, Pilar Jimenez, and fellows, Maria Calatrava and Aurora Martinez, within the Department of Municipal Infrastructure City of Cartagena - UPCT .
The aim of this research is, according to the researcher, to develop a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) in the municipality of La Manga, taking into account its three dimensions;
economic, social and environmental.
As part of the plan will develop a database of infrastructure in the area, mobility patterns are documented, and solutions to the problems identified will be proposed with the ultimate goal of improving the fluidity of both rolled traffic as a pedestrian, especially in high season .
According stand, after a first analysis have observed a "proper functioning" of the traffic light regulation on Gran Via de La Manga, which does not prevent that due to lack of capacity of the infrastructure to provide access to all vehicles occur jams at peak times, like Sunday at noon in the entrance to La Manga.
These jams are generated in part by left turns along the Gran Vía, and the lack of flow of pedestrian traffic to cross the road, something that generates insecurity as pedestrians cross by unsuitable sites.
The key measures to be proposed in the second part of the research to solve the problems identified, is seeking an approach to global mobility, "it is key proper coordination of traffic lights motor vehicle and pedestrian, and a suitable resizing infrastructure. "
