The number of visitors in the first five months of this year 2016 is 150,826 visitors, representing an increase over 2015 of more than 26,335 visitors.
Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejon, said that these data reveal that Cartagena begins to clearly break with the seasonality, since the rise has occurred in the months of low and middle season, highlighting the data for the months of March and May, in which there have been increases of 16,349 and 7,435 respectively.
Highlights include the increase in visits in the Augusteum, an increase of 242% over last year and elAscensor Panorámico, with 121%.
With a more moderate increase include the Interpretation Center of the Wall, the tourist bus shelters and street Gisbert, with 67%, 38% and 25%, respectively.
In absolute terms there was an increase in visits by groups through travel agents and cruise, with the increase of up to 6% by cruise passengers.
As to the place of origin of the National tourism, it highlights the increase in visitors from Andalusia and Valencia.
And an increase in visitors from other municipality in the region is also produced, an increase of 4% visitors to the city of Murcia.
As for tourists of international origin, Cartagena has managed to increase exponentially from US visitors, an increase of 11 percentage points over the same period of 2015.
Deputy Mayor and President of Cartagena Port of Cultures, praised these positive data after the meeting this morning by the consortium, and expressed his satisfaction because the work being done in terms of promoting the city begins to yield results.
He also noted that the range of activities of Cartagena Port of Cultures continues to increase, with major proposals as Savoring the Mysteries of Isis, in which magic and flavor will join in an evening show where visitors can explore the story through interpretation, all spiced with a menu of Roman inspiration.
