The pool of young researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is well nourished.
This morning have presented at the Faculty of Business 24 communications in the IX Introduction Day Research, organized by the Association of Young Researchers of Cartagena (AJICT), which is already preparing his next Yearbook 2016, an increase of participants from nearly 50%.
One of the most striking presentations was the student of Administration and Management (ADE) Mario Hernandez Alley on olfactory marketing.
Even more striking are the results, which indicate that the aromas increase the memory more among men than among women.
The young researcher performed for Final Grade an experiment with 145 students of the Faculty and a control group to verify the results.
Students saw a presentation with fifteen random images while listening to radio news and an air freshener perfumed the classroom.
The memory of images and heard news 18% among those who took the test with aromatic fragrances, but more among boys (27%) increased than girls (12%).
The student concludes that the aroma is a positive stimulus that helps retain odors related information and brands, so especially recommended for use in stores for men.
"They think we are more cavemen, but also smells affect us when buying," he says refuting preconceived ideas.
Sediments in the Rambla del Albujón
He also stressed this morning the investigation by the degree in Civil Engineering and student of Master of Civil Engineering and Ports of the UPCT Francisca Marco Cutillas, who has warned about the lack of consideration of sediments in calculations draft of the bridges on the boulevards in the Segura basin.
"Consider the sediments is very important in arid regions like ours," says the young researcher, who has estimated, for one of the wadis with increased risk of avenues, Albujón, 3,500 tons the maximum volume of materials they could be dragged if water flows reaching as those recorded in 2012. "the sediments make the necessary draft height increases by 33%," he concludes.
The dean of research UPCT, Beatriz Miguel, has encouraged young students to continue their efforts to increase scientific production.
AJICT president, Francisco Mateo, meanwhile stressed the importance of disclosure to researchers, recalling the workshops conducted by the Association in science fairs and visiting schools.
The symposium was also attended by the coordinator of the Scientific Culture Unit of the Polytechnic, José Luis Serrano.
