Six municipalities in the region, led by Cartagena, said today its support to farmers in the Campo de Cartagena calling for an urgent solution to the problem of salmueraductos, an unfinished work that prevents the proper disposal of waste brackish water desalinated Sea Mediterranean and affecting the ecosystem of the Mar Menor, silted by providing nutrients
The problem, as has been highlighted by farmers, is also due to insufficient water received by the diversion for agriculture, which has had to supply in times of shortage with desalinated groundwater.
In response, the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, accepted yesterday the request of the Coordinator of Organizations of Farmers and Ranchers (COAG) and the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Murcia (FECOAM) to hold a meeting to discuss the issue with the mayors of different municipalities of the region, as Antonio Leon de Torre Pacheco and Antonio Jesus Garcia de Fuente Alamo and groups involved as the Community of Irrigators of Campo de Cartagena in addition to the groups that have made the request, meeting which was also attended by the Councillor Agriculture, Obdulia Gomez.
The purpose of this meeting was to address and view the relevant solutions you need this so important to the region of the field of Cartagena and the regional community as a whole primary sector, as indicated by José López, indicating that six municipalities of the Region support the demands of farmers.
