On Wednesday, June 1, Cartagena will receive from the hands of the Kings Don Felipe and Princess Letizia VI National Prize for the Promotion of Reading, Mandarache granted to the project by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
The event will be held in the morning at the Cathedral of Palencia and during jointly awarded the National Culture Awards' 2014 and 2015. Their Majesties will be accompanied by Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Inigo Mendez de Vigo and secretary of State for Culture, José María Lassalle.
The award will be collected by the council of the Culture, Archaeological Heritage, Sports and Youth council of Cartagena, Ricardo Segado, representing the city of Cartagena and the Promoter Group, an organ of assembly character composed of citizen volunteers, professionals world of books and education who heads the project and selects the finalists from each edition books.
Mandarache Project was honored in 2014 for its comprehensive concept of reading diffusion as an initiative developed by citizens, especially young people, to make reading a daily celebration.
Driven by the Youth Council of the City Council in collaboration with municipal libraries and schools, Mandarache formula corresponds to that of two literary prizes awarded by 5,000 youth in the municipality of Cartagena.
The project is in these recently closed its eleventh edition, with Alejandro Palomas and Patricia Garcia-Rojo as winning writers moments, and beginning to prepare the twelfth, whose finalists were officially presented on 12 May.
Since its creation in 2004 by the project have been 70 first-line writers and more than 36,000 readers.
