The mayor, Jose Lopez, and the delegate Councillor of Finance, Isabel Garcia, have held a meeting this morning with the Minister of Finance, Andrés Carrillo, and representatives of the Ministry of Environment to advance the process of liquidation of the company polygon Development of Cartagena SA (PODECASA) as well as aspects regarding the costs of decontaminating the land of El Hondón.
Given the prolonged refusal of the Autonomous Region in dealing with the part of the debt it deserves in PODECASA, and interest Lopez in unblocking the situation, the mayor has asked the regional government to transfer its shares to the City of Cartagena that it can deal with that debt and, thus liquidating advance PODECASA and decontamination.
In this regard, it will be made, based on the land, a realistic estimate of the value of those shares.
Regarding the decontamination of land in El Hondón, the mayor has asked the Ministry of Environment that the City remains exempted from the payment of the regional rates in the case of having to carry out transport of existing toxic waste in those land and thus make possible the environmental recovery of the area after decades of pollution.
