For over a century, municipal cemeteries (Our Lady of Remedios, San Antonio Abad, Alumbres and San Ginés de la Jara) fulfill their function headstones, being the place of deposit of the remains of the residents of Cartagena.
However, these cemeteries provide funeral services limited during weekends (only four hours a day).
Specifically, the burial service only on Saturdays and Sundays is provided from 9:00 to 13:00.
Thus, to bury a decedent who died on Saturday at 14:00 hours, it is forced wait until Monday morning to bury him.
From Citizens believe that it is unnecessary to extend the mourning of the families of those killed in these cases, the inconvenience and the problems caused to relatives living outside the city.
According to the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padin, "the City must ensure good access of citizens to funeral services, eliminating time constraints that seem unjustified, especially when in other cemeteries in the region of Cartagena interments are made the weekends normally, mornings and afternoons from Monday to sunday. "
Citizens presented at the next municipal plenary a motion to urge the local government to extend the hours of burial of municipal cemeteries in the weekends, and thus can perform burials on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
