Professor of the Department of Architecture and Building of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Macarena Salcedo, has recently collaborated in the conservation project Duomo, Milan's cathedral.
Salcedo, who is completing a thesis on the architectural survey in the area of ​​Granada, directed by Professor Jose Calvo reports that collaboration grew out of a conversation with the heads of the University of Milan Polytechnic to perform there one research stay.
"I called and decided it was three months and have collaborated with the research group working on the conservation of the Duomo," says the teacher.
The young researcher reports that collaborated in the phase dedicated to the correct documentation of the building by the architectural survey, consisting of comprehensive data collection to develop accurate models for use in the subsequent restoration of the cathedral complex.
For three months, the teacher has been responsible for lifting using advanced techniques of data collection as photogrammetry, 3D Laser Scanner or Mobile Mapping Systems.
Salcedo stressed that the Milan Polytechnic is "one of the best universities in Europe, has very advanced means" and, specifically, the research group that has worked, 3D Survey Group, develops projects in places like Egypt and other parts of the world.
The researcher warns that the Duomo in Milan "well preserved" because the work being done by researchers there more to prevention work on the monument.
"It is preferable to prevent intervene when the monument is already damaged," he says says that while these tasks are more common abroad, but "now in Spain also are starting to do preventive work."
Following this work, the teacher has been included in the research group 3D Survey Group of Milan Polytechnic to establish collaborations on future projects.
"When you finish the thesis I am open to all kinds of cooperation and I wish that in the future they could come to the UPCT and work together," he adds.
