The rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Alejandro Diaz Morcillo, has asked the president of the Regional Assembly, Rosa Peñalver, which was extended four years transfer of residence Alberto Colao as the project does not start adequacy of the former administrative building of the City, where it plans to build a residence of 250 seats.
The rector of the University and the Vice Chancellor of Economic and Strategic Planning of the institution, Emilio Trigueros, have held a meeting with the president of the regional parliament in which it has dealt with the issue of university residence.
The transfer of Alberto Colao facility ends in 2019, but the university expects that it would take four years to launch its new facilities, to be managed by a private company.

The university president has indicated they are studying if there is interest from companies to carry out the work of remodeling and subsequent management.

This residence has a capacity of just over 30 students.
The University is also immersed in the remodeling of the Campus Alfonso XIII, in which the rehabilitation of the School of Architecture is contemplated.
The president will meet with the Minister of Education and Universities to agree on how the Government will contribute the amount for the works, the cost amounts to 7 million.

UPCT has also called on the Regional Assembly support for public universities, greater control of the titles that are given and other subsidies that already granted, and for research because it is "important support institutions the social function of the university. "
During the meeting, Diaz Morcillo has informed the president of the regional parliament on plans for internationalization of the institution.
"We have a vision to grow outward with alumnnos and researchers coming from Europe, Latin America and other countries," he detailed.
It states that the current demand for internationalization is master's degrees or specific training courses, but the intention of the UPCT is to focus the importance of research in other countries, students go outside and that teachers impart teaching in other countries.
