A student of the Polytechnic creates a caterpillar robot to inspect risk scenarios (27/04/2016)

With a dual joystick control, such as game consoles, Eduardo can teledirigir both its caterpillar robot and camera incorporates one of the many elements that incorporates this vehicle designed to perform inspection tasks disaster.

In all disasters, because, among many others, has sensors beta and gamma radioactivity.

The robot caterpillar that the alumnus of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) Eduardo Ruiz González has designed and manufactured by itself was one of the winning projects last year of the first edition of the Contest of technology-based IEEE-UPCT, the association Polytechnic students has reconvened.

The prize of 600 euros is entirely intended for students to make reality your project.

"The experience of being able to implement your idea is the best competition," said Eduardo Ruiz, who had to demonstrate his skills for self build and program their robot for help.

"I've learned a lot about how to document myself on new knowledge," he explains.

"To design the circuit board electronics knowledge much more advanced we see in the race Teleco were required, but students helped me IEEE-UPCT" he recalls.

It took a few months to combine different modules Arduino to teledirigir the engine, steering and vehicle camera, and to integrate sensors radioactivity, temperature, humidity, light, infrared and ultrasound, which, among other features, avoid obstacles and precipices.

"It is designed for rescue and exploration," he says.

"I wanted to do something useful for society," the engineer in Telecommunications from the UPCT, murciano 24 years.

New edition of the competition

The IEEE Student Branch in the UPCT organized in collaboration with the Student Council and sponsored by the School of Industrial and Telecommunications (ETSII and ETSIT) the second contest of technology-based IEEE-UPCT.

The prize of the contest will consist of two first prizes of 600 euros each at the highest rated projects.

The winner (or team of up to three members awarded) agrees to implement the project submitted before 22 September 2016. The deadline for submission of projects will extend until the day May 25, 2016 at 14.00 hours.
