Councillor for Social Services and Social Mediation, Mari Carmen Martin del Amor, along with technicians from the Department participated in the Tenth Meeting of the Network of Intercultural Cities of Spain (RECI), which was held in Getxo.
Cartagena belongs to this network of cities since its inception in 2011. The RECI depends on the European Network Intercultural Citie and the Council of Europe and has the support of the Obra Social La Caixa Foundation.
During working hours have addressed issues such as the work agenda for the coming months of 2016, adding new cities and signing of various agreements with the Council of Europe.
In addition it has been decided that the next meeting of the network will be held in Parla during the month of October at a meeting of policy makers will also be established to address the management of diversity in cities involved in this project as well as seeking funding for European projects for different cities to participate.
In the discussion forum of this meeting it has addressed the issue of refugees.
In this sense all cities have claimed to develop its role in the reception of persons.
Each of the cities belonging to the network is taking a very different role but all agreed that have taken the steps necessary for the start of the reception process: inventory of housing resources and the role of coordination with the various entities working in the territory.
This issue has marked a line of work agreed between the cities of the RECI for the functions at the institutional level, treatment level of communication and level of intervention must be made on refugees to be unified.
In this regard, the representative of the Council of Europe, Eladio Fernández Galiano, head of Democratic Initiatives, has claimed that you can not leave out the municipalities on this issue so urgent consideration of the role in the host requires municipalities carried out in our country.
