The Greek and Latin classics come to life in Cartagena with the European Youth Festival of Greco-Roman Theatre (05/04/2016)

With the incomparable scenery of the sea as a backdrop, the classic characters from the works of Sophocles, Plautus and Aristophanes come alive, once again, in the XXI edition of the Youth Festival Europeode Greco-Roman Theatre which will be held on 6 and 7 April in the auditorium of Torres Park.

Over 20 years in the project;

fruit born of illusion and work of the late and former director of the Institute of Secondary Education, Ricardo Alarcon;

go ahead thanks to the efforts of educators and the recent support of the City of Cartagena.

The presentation of this festival took place today, April 5th, at the headquarters of the Town Hall and has run to delconcejal charge of Culture, David Martinez, who was accompanied by the director of the Institute of Secondary Education Jimenez de la Espada, José Miguel Fernandez and deputy director of the headquarters of the Institute of Greco-Roman Theatre Segóbriga in Cartagena, Alvaro Jacobo.

IES Jiménez de la Espada organizes this project together with the Institute of Greco-Roman Theatre Segóbriga and the Center for the Study of Representation and Ancient Theatre CRETE

The four performances, two tragedies and two comedies, will bring together more than 2,600 students from Spain dedistintos points as well as the own Murcia.

Students can enjoy classic plays, of which in many cases will be further examined in Selectivity and be represented porcompañías of professional and amateur theater.

The councilman of Culture has highlighted the importance of this festival lasts over time as about History and Classical Culture to young people.

In addition, David Martinez, stressed the success of the last edition in which about 2,000 students enjoyed the twentieth anniversary of the Festival of Greco-Roman Theatre in Cartagena.

For its part, the director of IES Jiménez de la Espada expressed his hope that in the next editions of the festival and thanks to the support of the City of Cartagena, improve the numbers of students who come to enjoy these classics in recent years has decreased because of the difficult economic situation of these years.
