To mark the fourth Cententario the death of Miguel de Cervantes and linking the brilliant writer Cartagena, this April a series of commemorative events such as exhibitions, conferences and roundtables and other activities are performed.
One of these events is the exhibition Don Quixote.
Illustrations of Nicomedes Gomez, gathering the illustrations that made the cartagenero artist and Son of the City between 1952 and 1954, a collection that the author donated to Cartagena in 1979.
The opening of the exhibition was held this afternoon at the Centro Cultural Ramón Alonso Luzzy, with the assistance of the mayor, Jose Lopez;
The area councilor of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ricardo Segado, and councilor for Culture, Education and Equality, David Martinez Noguera.
The collection consists of works made in different techniques such as tempera / gouache, pen and ink, watercolor, collage and ink, all captured on paper.
The exhibition will be open until April 30.
SÁNCHEZ GĂ“MEZ NICOMEDES
Nicomedes Gomez (1903-1983) was born in Cartagena within a humble family in San Rafael street and started working at an early age in the shipbuilder.
He received drawing classes at the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country by the local painter Andrés Barceló, while opposition was preparing.
In 1925 he moved to Madrid, where in addition to join the army, he continued his studies in painting at the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando, achieving his first art prize two years later, while he started working as a draftsman and caricaturist in different media.
In 29 he held his first exhibition in Madrid, to which are added more numerous exhibitions in France, where he worked at Studio Guy de Perpignan.
Between 1952 and 1954 series performs Don Quixote, of which several exhibitions were organized and established him as an artist, shows that was exhibited at the Art Gallery Nieto in 1978.
In 1979 Nicomedes Gomez finally returned to Cartagena, donating the entire series of Don Quixote to his city, which was many years exposed in the Municipal Archives.
In 1994 he exhibited for the last time.
The cartagenero artist received in recognition of his work numerous awards and honors, as Cartagenero the Year, Favorite Son of Cartagena Officer or of the Order of Academic Palms of France, among others.
