The European project for the conservation of Tallante garbancillo led by the School of Agriculture of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) faces its final stretch.

May 31 will be closed this project which began on June 12, 2012 and the beneficiaries involved as partners, in addition to the UPCT, the City of Cartagena and the Autonomous Community.

Wednesday March 2, evaluators of the European Union with researchers from the UPCT and technicians of the City Council and the Autonomous Community will evaluate in detail each and every one of the actions carried out in the project to determine the level of achievement of the proposed objectives.

In the project highlights the great effort made in the field of dissemination both in schools and in society in general, the strengthening of natural populations with thousands of specimens bred in the nursery, and the constitution of the ECUGA (Custodian Planning for the conservation of Garbancillo Tallante), which will ensure the continuity of conservation efforts of this plant.

The custodian also seeks the conservation of all natural, architectural and cultural west of Cartagena through the involvement of multidisciplinary collective resources.

As an example of this irradiation of the project to other groups a priori little related to the conservation of nature, the technicians of the Commission will visit an exhibition of lighting devised by students of the School of Architecture and Building UPCT, inspired by the garbancillo Tallante.

The sample is placed in the hall of the School of Architecture at the Paseo Alfonso XIII.

EU evaluators will also visit the greenhouses of Agrifood Experimental Station Thomas Ferro and different volcanic hills of Tallante and the Ports of Santa Barbara, where they have done work for the introduction of species.

To end the day, at 19:30 will take place at the premises of the neighborhood association of Tallante a small act of recognition to individuals, associations and organizations that have actively collaborated with the project and that the assistance is provided rector UPCT, director of the Office for the Promotion of Social and Economic Environment and the heads of the departments of Tourism and Decentralization of the City of Cartagena.
