This morning we learned that the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez (MC), has issued a letter to Hansa Urbana requiring that company to rush, immediately, the restoration of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara.
This action is motivated by the ruling of the Administrative Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia, on February 19, 2016, which estimates the appeal filed by the City of Cartagena, considering lawful the agreement of the Local Government of April 27, 2012, with respect to the restoration of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara, covered the following points:
Require the Hansa Urbana SA Company so that, within a maximum period of 10 days, adopt constructive and safety measures to prevent degradation of the monument.
Urge the company to the maximum period of one month started the restoration of the monument, following the project and the license granted in 2007.
Failure to comply with the requirement or paralyzed or slowed the restoration, the City Council would act under subsidiary Hansa Urbana.
Of these three points, Hansa Urbana faced only works of conservation and maintenance, without the previous Consistory execute the other sections.
It should be recalled that the agreement of the Governing Board of April 27, 2012 was the result of pressure exerted by groups, individuals and associations in defense of heritage.
In this sense, it is fair review insistent opposition work carried out by the then Councillor for MC, now mayor, Jose Lopez.
MC has demonstrated a strong commitment to the defense and protection of the historical heritage of the municipality.
Thus exerting its work opposition rose to the full number of proposals for the recovery of San Ginés de la Jara, as the motion filed on February 6, 2012 in which he called for "start with protection works and restoration of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara officially by the Consistory. "
Similarly, MC, with Councilman José López, presented the full range of issues, adhering to the requirements of the lawyer Maria Dolores Ruiz, who decisively, has been working to urge the council to the restoration and protection of BIC Monastery San Ginés de la Jara.
In addition, MC has had an important role in giving knowledge monitoring and denouncing the gradual deterioration that has undergone the monastery because of the inaction of previous governments.
The defense of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara has been accompanied by a constant complaint of the deterioration suffered by the Chapels of Monte Miral, part of the set of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara.
MC, aided by the dedicated work of individuals and Maria Dolores Ruiz requested in May 2014 that the regional government immediately establish urgent measures to ensure the protection of the hermitages of Monte Miral in Cartagena.
In this regard, the Directorate General of Cultural Assets MC informed in June that year, the urgent implementation of protective measures.
Despite this decision, more than a year later and, having avoided the failures of market to undertake measures to protect and conserve the hermitages, the Directorate General of Cultural Assets determined in October 2015, the file of the preliminary proceedings the initiation of disciplinary proceedings to the company Portman Golf, SL, on the protection and conservation of the mountain chapels Miral.
Under these circumstances, the legal services of MC filed an appeal before the resolution, in an example that this political commitment to the defense, protection and recovery of the historical heritage of Cartagena is the product of the responsibility acquired by the members Cartagena with society, beyond the political positions that are shown at all times.
MC welcomes the judgment of the Superior Court of Justice of Murcia, which gives priority to the recovery of the Monastery of San Ginés de la Jara, while reiterating its commitment to the effective recovery of the monastery, hoping that recovery is one of the closest Cartagena heritage symbols.
