The mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, opened on the evening of February 23 during Modernism in Cartagena.

The Grand Hotel and his time, training activity under the program of activities designed to commemorate the Year of Modernism in Cartagena.
The course, organized by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and Beltrí Commission 2012, has the support of the City of Cartagena, and will be held today and on 24 February and 1, 2, 8 and 9 March in Elías Hernández Graduate Hall of the School of Architecture and Building UPCT (Avda. Alfonso XIII, 50), hours 16:00 to 20:15 hours.
Jose Lopez thanked the work being done by the UPCT, the Beltrí Commission and the various stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Year of Modernism also pondering a move whose appeal lies in the care of all aspects of building, interior decoration and abroad, especially taking care of the harmony of all art forms present.
In the mayor opinion, this way of understanding architecture spread to all aspects of society, being present in stores, private homes, stores, theaters, factories and military establishments.
The course objective is to become a forum to present, discuss and update the knowledge of the Grand Hotel, the modernist architecture of the city and the region of Cartagena, and to establish the existing architectural, artistic, social and cultural relations between Cartagena and other areas of influence of modernism.

The Grand Hotel and its time aims to develop conferences, including a space for discussion and formulation of conclusions and various technical visits to the Route of Modernism in Cartagena and La Casa Zapata, Carmelitas present school and playground House Dorda.
2016 YEAR OF MODERNISM IN CARTAGENA
It is recalled that the activities to commemorate the Year of Modernism began on January 22 with the launch of the exhibition Celestino Martinez and the Grand Hotel that will be on display on the ground floor of the Town Hall until next March 31.
The Year of the Modernismo assumed the organization, this year, a series of activities such as exhibitions, conferences, concerts, leisure activities, tours, contests, editing of audiovisual, books and educational materials, representing the uniqueness of Modernism in Cartagena, a temporary space that finished marking the contemporary development of the municipality.
For the design and definition of the program of activities of the Year of Modernism in Cartagena defined a work table, coordinated by the Office of Mayor, in which municipal officers of Culture and Tourism are integrated, the municipal coordinator of Historical and Archaeological Heritage the Beltrí Commission, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, and other professionals.
