The Tennis Club Cartagena has a new sports call.
From 20 to 27 February will host the International Competition LXVI City Cartagena - III Challenge Cup and the XXX International Futures ATP Tour 2016, which will bring great players to stand as winners in doubles and singles.
This morning have presented the phases that have the tournament in a ceremony attended by the Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejon, the Councillor for Sports, Ricardo Segado, CEO of Sports of the Autonomous Community, Alonso Gomez, Tennis Club president Jose Alcolea and the president of the Tennis Federation of the Region, Antonio Garcia.
The City of Cartagena -III International Challenge Cup, a tournament with a long history that has brought together the best players in the national circuit, competition will be held in two phases: an initial phase of 20 to 21 February, which will usher in the final phase 22 to 27 February.
In the qualifying round will bring 32 players who will qualify 8. In the final phase, these 8 qualifiers will join 18 higher ranked players selected by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and 6 guests from the Wild Card ( WC).
The final will be played on February 26 for doubles and February 27 for individuals, where players compete for the Region of Murcia Trophy and, if they win for three consecutive years or five alternate years, may obtain the Challenge Cup.
This sporty calling is offered as an appointment for all citizens, with free admission, in a tournament that is a reference of the international court with promising young sport which has trained rackets great athletes like Manuel Santana, Juan Manuel Couder or Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Since the government team have shown their support for the convening, inviting women also join this exciting challenge of sport, as noted by the Deputy Mayor, which shows that we still have unfinished business.
The president of the Club de Tenis Cartagena noted the enormous satisfaction and pride involved for the club meet objectives, thanking the municipal corporation hosting and support this call.
The Challenge Cup added 66 editions.
The first men's edition of the Challenge Cup was held on 9, 10 and 11 February 1945.
Two years later, in 1947, the first female edition was held, celebrating the last edition in 1992.
