The number of unemployed fell in Cartagena last June in 499 people, representing a decrease of 2.7%, according to Labor Ministry figures made public.
This reduction is higher than both the regional average of 2.06%, as recorded in the whole region, which has been of 2.56%.
The sector with the largest decline in unemployment has been the service, with 351 fewer unemployed (3.43%), as highlighted by the Mayor, Pilar Barreiro, for whom tourism is destined to become the first area of recovery thanks to its dynamic labor supply and assets that Cartagena has managed to put on the tourist market.
The decrease of unemployment amounts to nearly 100 people who came on the same date last year and is much greater than occurred between May and June 2008, when unemployment rose by more than 90 people.
The mayor pointed out that this is the second straight month of decline in registered unemployment figures and that the May, the annual figure is 230 fewer unemployed.
For his part, unemployment in construction has dropped by 145 persons (3.5%).
Barreiro has warned that good data, but should be treated with caution because the central government still does not solve structural problems needed for employment recovery is stable.
In this sense, the mayor pointed out that the only sector in which unemployment has risen is that of the applicants without previous employment.
Although the increase was only 12 people, Barreiro recalled that more than 1,570 people seeking their first job.
