The Minister of Water, Agriculture and Environment, Adela Martinez-Cache, announced today that "the Ministry has issued a favorable report to the withdrawal of breakwaters and regeneration of the Playa de Los Urrutias and Punta Brava, in the municipality of Cartagena, during March 2016 ".
This change in the conditions, he said, "has been discussed with the scientific community and environmental organizations have expressed no objections to it."
The report prepared by the Office for Promotion of Socioeconomic Environment Ministry states that the conduct of the proceedings during the month of March 2016 is compatible with the conservation of natural values ​​of the protected area, provided that mechanisms are established control and compliance with the conditions set out in the report.
In order to avoid disturbing the birds in the startup phase of the breeding season, the proceedings should begin with those closest to Marina del Carmolí Spot, which correspond to the extension of the breakwater of Punta Brava areas, and removal sludge and dirt accumulated around it.
Before the start of works, the Ministry shall receive a preliminary report with data from bird watching, as well as the census and assessment of the state of protected fish fauna.
During the development of the works a continuous environmental monitoring of birds in the vicinity of the breakwaters, the results must be submitted to the Office of Social and Economic Promotion of Environment will be held.
