The campaign to control the seagull population that the Health Department of the City of Cartagena has been launched for the fourth time, between April and June, has resulted in the withdrawal of 81 nests, 64 chicks and 90 eggs , after a review of 137 spots of the town, many of them in areas already affected in previous years.
These figures are nearly double those of the 2009 campaign, in which 98 points were reviewed in which 58 nests were found and captured 29 gulls chicks and 63 eggs.
This year has also been very important the cooperation of citizens, having collected 33 complaints from mainly the most affected area is the one that goes from the port to the Paseo Alfonso XIII.
As for the location of the nests, the urban area the highest concentration, especially in the Parque Torres (with 6 nests, 13 eggs and 1 chick), the Sea Wall (3 nests with eggs and 8) and the building of the former CIM (with 3 nests, 4 eggs and 3 chicks).
Other areas where these birds are also proliferate the old administration building, the Eixample and the Alameda de San Antón.
This municipal project seagull population control began in 2006, together with the population study of pigeons.
