The Department of Urban Planning, headed by the vice mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, continues to work with the maximum possible agility to facilitate the ecological transition of companies in the industrial sector of Cartagena. In this sense, this same week the mandatory license has been given so that Navantia can remove the fiber cement that still exists in the Technical School of Welders.
The factory has a six-month deadline to carry out the demolition of the elements that contain asbestos and for this it will invest 18,000 euros. "In the same way that the City Council replaced the fiber cement on the roofs of schools, we are speeding up the elimination of this hazardous material in industrial facilities where it still exists," said the deputy mayor. REPSOL WILL CHANGE ITS BOILERS TO NATURAL GAS Similarly, Urbanismo has given the green light to Repsol Lubricantes y Asfaltos' request to change its fossil fuel boilers to natural gas at the Escombreras plant.
These works will involve an investment of 739,401.93 euros for Repsol and an execution period of 12 months. As Castejón has advanced, “the factories of the Escombreras Valley are making an effort to pollute less and reduce their CO2 emissions to comply with the mandate of the 2030 agenda.
And we, from the City Council, are doing everything that is in our hands to help them in this transit, speeding up the granting of licenses ”. The deputy mayor has highlighted that "these works contribute both to the improvement of the working conditions of the workers and to the generation of employment, something that is very positive for the municipality," stressed Castejón.
