| Cartagena will be the first municipality to use this application that digitizes the participation process to obtain representative opinions | A multiplatform application will allow citizens to participate in a simple, visual and direct way in deliberative processes on public policies of greater proximity, such as the route of a bike lane or the remodeling of a square.
The platform that will make this possible, whose service has already been acquired by the Cartagena City Council and will be available before the end of the year, has been designed and developed by graduates of the UPCT. Cartagena will be the first municipality to use this application, which will also be offered to other towns.
«This government team attaches great importance to the opinion of citizens and to develop this multiplatform, which we trust will be a benchmark, we got in touch with Biyectiva, a Cartagena company of UPCT graduates, which is the only one that appears in the artificial intelligence map of the Ministry ”, explained the delegate councilor for Sustainable City, Cristina Mora. Digitizing citizen participation to obtain representative and legitimizing opinions of the decisions that are made is the objective of the business project 'Perspectiva Z', by the architect for the UPCT Nuria Berruezo, which has won the regional edition of the Explorer entrepreneurship program Santander. "I had always had the desire to do something that would help others and I signed up for the Explorer program as soon as I found out about it and it has been a whole lot of roses," says the young architect and entrepreneur.
"I have learned a lot, they put me in contact with the company for which I now work and that has managed to get the Cartagena City Council to access the project," he summarizes. The Berruezo business project has been mentored by another UPCT graduate, Felipe Segura, co-founder of the Biyectiva start-up, who is in charge of the technical development of the citizen participation platform.
The collaboration between these entrepreneurs from the Polytechnic is bidirectional, since the architect works as a creative for the technology firm. The platform that is being developed will allow users, whose identity will be verified to guarantee equity in the participatory process, opt for alternatives of urban reforms visually, or even draw their most common itineraries on the city map with the objective to trace bike lanes along the roads where it is most needed.
"The idea is to avoid taking measures that do not satisfy anyone and to be consistent with the opinions of the population," remarks the young winner. "This project is a perfect example of symbiosis between a graduate, a technology company for graduates, the City Council and our entrepreneur training program," stressed the rector, Beatriz Miguel. The Explorer entrepreneurship program is held every year at the UPCT.
In this edition, 25 business projects were registered.
The other four finalists were 'Platafit', a personal training and nutrition app; 'Chemo', an entertainment proposal with virtual reality for cancer patients; 'Timebox', a remote monitoring equipment for the health of the elderly, and 'We-Pro', a network to connect companies and professionals.
The program is coordinated by the Santander-UPCT Entrepreneurship Chair. function { ;(, , {});}
