On the occasion of the commemoration of the World Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, which will be celebrated on the 21st of this month, from the Workshop for the Promotion of Immigrant Women of Los Dolores, and in collaboration with the Rafael Rubio Library of the The same neighborhood, the first reading meeting on the book 'Cruce de mundos', by Anna Tortajada, was held today. This activity is part of the programming carried out by the Immigration and Development Cooperation Unit of the Department of Social Services of the Cartagena City Council on the occasion of the upcoming commemoration of the Cultural Diversity Day. The event was held in collaboration with the Cartagena Municipal Library Network, specifically with the Rafael Rubio Library and the Los Dolores Intercultural Center. A total of 18 women participated in the activity, belonging to the different reading clubs where there has been an exchange of experiences regarding the functioning of their respective reading groups-gathering.
Subsequently, there has been a debate on the issues addressed in the book: respect for diversity, the bond of friendship, love and affection of people, the various cultural origins.
Personal experiences on migratory processes have been shared and respect has been highlighted as a basis for an adequate coexistence, as well as the enrichment offered by the possibility of living with people from different cultures. Finally, the activity was closed with the reading of a small text on this topic, where the main idea is that coexistence depends on the people and not on the culture that one has, as well as the acceptance, elimination of prejudices, and not valuing a culture above another.
