The Cartagena City Council is going to launch a pilot experience to topple the dry land of the Mar Menor to promote that the effect of the sea can remove the sandbanks that are the main responsible for slowing down the dynamics of the water. To carry out these works, authorization has been requested from the Ministry of Ecological Transition.
"This beheading of the dry will be carried out by manual procedures, so we understand that it should not be complicated to authorize it," said the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, after the meeting of the Inter-Administrative Forum of the Mar Menor that was held today in Cartagena. The mayor recalled that in December a detailed report on the necessary works on the beaches of the Mar Menor was sent to the Ministry of Ecological Transition for its technical report, with the aim of specifying who should be responsible for each of these works. "We hope that they will offer us a technical answer with a legal justification, because only in this way will we be able to make the necessary decisions with the necessary legal certainty to undertake the removal of sludge and sludge," said Ana Belén Castejón. During this meeting, the mayor recalled that five spas will be installed in Punta Brava and Los Urrutias, and five pontoons, of which 2 will be located in Los Nietos, one in Mar de Cristal, one in Playa Paraíso and one in Islas Minors The City Council also continues to carry out works to improve the sanitation network in coastal towns of the Mar Menor, charged to the surplus of Hidrogea.
In fact, the work of Los Urrutias has already been completed and that of Los Nietos is in progress.
Both have involved an investment of close to 400,000 euros. The mayor has shared with the rest of the participants the initiative proposed by the CEIP La asomada, through its educational project 'El Mar Menor de los Niños', from which the students and teachers of the center seek to create a natural circular path around to the Mar Menor. Thus, the children recently contacted the first mayor to make her a participant in their objective, which they want to start on March 21, world forest day. "The Mar Menor for children is a very ambitious and beautiful project, and now its young members want, with this initiative, to pay tribute to the figure of Ricardo Codorniu, creating a green ring around the Salt Lake", he explained Ana Belén Castejón. In this way, the mayor stressed, the project would start this March, planting kilometer zero of this greenway, for which Castejón has invited all administrations to "lead this project, together, to raise awareness." Likewise, the mayor positively valued the investment of 2 million euros planned by the Autonomous Community for the tasks of removing plant biomass and cleaning the maritime areas of the Mar Menor during the years 2021 and 2022. This was announced by the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and the Environment, Antonio Luengo, after presiding over the Inter-administrative Coordination Forum held in Cartagena.
The term of execution of the service is nineteen months, starting on May 1, 2021.
