| More than 13,000 students of Infant, Primary and Secondary of the municipality participate in the project that the City Council has launched for this course | A total of 13,193 students from the 31 Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary schools in Cartagena, participating this 2020/21 academic year in the Participatory Budgets of the Cartagena City Council, have already completed the first phase.
This initial phase consists mainly of informing, disseminating and debating among the entire educational community that makes up each of the centers what the Participatory Budgets consist of. The Councilor for Education and person in charge of the project, Irene Ruiz, has reported that “for this, each dynamic or motor group, made up of male and female students and accompanied by the responsible teacher in each center, have worked hard to get the rest of their colleagues this project from its center, using all kinds of resources, whether they are posters throughout the center, scheduled visits to the classrooms, or even power points ”. Above all, the health measures have been complied with and therefore most of the motor groups have had to resort to new technologies to reinforce the informative campaign, through the use of diffusion videos adapted to all ages, to reach both young people from high school, vocational training or ESO, such as Primary school children and Infant students. Precisely to ensure that the message reaches everyone, “depending on the ages of each target audience, winks, costumes, masks, stories, all kinds of resources, the use of blog or social networks have been used.
In this way, everyone will be able to choose in what to invest the 3,548 euros of the municipal budget, always taking into account the common good, so that the investment benefits the greatest number of students in the center ”, explained the mayor. Due to the health situation, the meetings have been carried out electronically and municipal technicians have visited the centers through this channel.
In this way, the students of each motor group have been able to explain how the dissemination is carried out, the division of roles between journalists, computer scientists, mathematicians, cartoonists, etc., ask their doubts, debate different questions and make decisions for the next phases . The project coordinating group, made up of the management teams, teachers in charge, tutors of the participating centers and the person in charge of the project on the part of the City Council, has held telematic meetings to evaluate and monitor the entire process. Once this first phase is concluded, the students will submit their proposals that the main group of each center must classify.
Then, the commission formed by the students and the responsible teachers will prioritize the proposals presented, which must be sent to the municipal technicians to assess their viability. As a novelty, this year a space has been opened on the municipal website (https://presupuestosparticipativos.cartagena.es/centros_educativos.asp) so that each educational center can publish the material and resources that are being used.
