| The vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo and the Minister of Public Works attend the placement of the new frames of the bridge over the promenade that will expand the evacuation of water as defense before floods | The works carried out by the Ministry of Development to improve access to Los Nietos through the Rambla de La Carrasquilla continue to take steps, and this week four frames are being installed that will expand the section of the water passage of the bridge over the promenade, allowing evacuation up to 260 cubic meters per second.
The dimension of the frames coincides with the width of the boulevard and they are dimensioned for the avenue with a return period of 100 years. This is an action included in the work to improve drainage on the road that connects Los Urrutias with Los Nietos (RM-F54), which started last February and has a regional investment of 212,692 euros.
The work includes the improvement of the longitudinal profile of the road, eliminating the existing trough in the speed bump. The Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, and the Minister of Development, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure, María Casajús, have visited the works that are progressing "at a good pace" on Wednesday, March 3, and have been accompanied by the residents of Los Nietos, who hope with optimism the result of the works because "they will avoid new floods in case of torrential rains." Noelia Arroyo stressed that “these works represent an important milestone in terms of road safety and, above all, to prevent a repeat of the floods left by the last DANA and that seriously affected Los Nietos.
With this action, the capacity of the water to pass will be multiplied by 28, avoiding that the neighbors are isolated by the flooding of the road at that point ”. For his part, the Minister of Development has stressed that the work will benefit the 3,222 users who daily travel through this regional road.
"This action will defend Los Nietos from flooding because it enlarges the gaps through which the water has to pass, since we ensure that it stays within the promenade and does not flood the road and reaches Los Nietos." The work will be completed in May, as the diversion of main services such as irrigation pipes has already been completed; the firm and the old pass have been demolished; and the base for the placement of the frames is already built. This action is added to the nine that the Community has already carried out on roads damaged by the Dana that run through the municipality of Cartagena and that add up to a total investment of more than 572,000 euros.
