| The megayacht Sailing Yacht A will be ready in Navantia | The megayacht Sailing Yacht A returned to dock yesterday in the Port of Cartagena to undergo repair tasks in Navantia where it will remain for a few months to brighten the eyes of the curious who dare to see the boat up close.
With the flag of Bermuda, it is one of the largest sailboats in the world and is almost 143 meters long, 25 meters wide, and an eight meter long pin.
Its construction began in 2013 at the German shipyard Nobiskrug, designed by Philippe Starck, and it was one of the great challenges of naval architecture, as well as one of the most expensive quirks in history.
Its price is around 400 million euros.
It is a project carried out by an alliance of great specialists: the design of the sails, the rigging and the engineering come from the Dutch studio Dykstra Naval; the English Magma Structures was in charge of the masts; the Valencia company Futures Fibers, the boom company and the American Doyle Sails manufactured the sails.
This ship, owned by Russian millionaire Andrey Melnichenko, is unique for its features such as underwater vision, diesel-electric propulsion system, and state-of-the-art navigation systems.
The three masts are the tallest freestanding composite structure ever installed.
The main mast rises 100 m above the waterline.
When not sailing, the propulsion is run by two MTU diesel engines of 3,600 kW and as many electric engines of 4,300.
On the surface, there is a helipad and three pools, one of them with a glass bottom.
Inside, eight floors, underwater vision, six suites and a disco are some of its facilities.
It has 44-millimeter thick bulletproof glass, more than 40 CCTV cameras, motion sensors, and access to the cabins via fingerprint.
