| On International Education Day, GALACTYCO Collective insists on the need to implement diversity education in each and every one of the public and subsidized educational centers in our Region | The enormous amount of deficiencies that our public education system suffers is well known, even more so in these times of pandemic: lack of teachers, high ratios, even lack of well-equipped centers.
But the already incomprehensible lack of education is not less or less important when we speak of values ??in equality and respect for diversity. According to the vice president of GALACTYCO, Mar Tornero, "an intolerable and high rate of LGTBIphobia continues to occur in our classrooms, as a consequence of the lack of institutional involvement.
Even within the teachers themselves we are allowing something so necessary for a healthy coexistence within the classrooms depend on many occasions and exclusively on the good work and will of the teacher who cares about information, as he does not have the required training in equality and diversity.
In this sense, we want to recall the existence of Law 8/2016 on Social Equality, with which the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia acquired the commitment to protect LGTBI minors and LGTBI Families. The aforementioned Law promotes measures conducive to achieving effective respect in the educational system for affective-sexual, gender and family diversity, promoting training measures at all educational levels, aimed at both students and professionals who deal with of Education.
Five years have passed since the approval of this Law and we still do not see a clear intention to apply it.
" For the education coordinator and president of GALACTYCO, Alberto Alba, "from our collective we want to denounce, once again, the lack of involvement of the regional government to comply with and enforce the Law in all public and subsidized educational centers, demanding training pertinent and compulsory for teachers and the implementation of educational workshops that promote Equality, non-discrimination and respect for diversity, and of course, the elimination of all violence, physical or verbal, due to LGTBIphobia.
This lack of involvement leaves the door behind open to all kinds of aggressions, whose nature continues not to be treated as it deserves, with the clear objective of its total eradication.
Thus we continue to find insults, scorn, fights or humiliations that are treated as "children's things",naturalizing hatred of different sexual or gender identities, or misunderstanding of different family realities.
This educational omission becomes an accomplice of LGTBIphobia in all its extension, including the institutional one, since the current regional government has assumed the demands of a political party with clear dyes of incomprehension and intolerance of diversity ". Alba recalls that, a few days ago we invited the AMPAS to reflect and assess the idea of ??changing its name and changing its name to AFA (Association of Students' Families), or AFE (Association of School Families), as they are doing in various schools in other autonomous communities.
In our country, the reality of family diversity goes beyond the family made up of a father and a mother.
In the schools there are female and male students with homoparental families, single parents, minors tutored by other relatives, foster families, etc., which means that these parental and educational agents remain invisible or may not feel represented by the acronyms that the AMPA represents. To conclude, from Colectivo GALACTYCO they denounce that this interest, which should be promoted by our political institutions, is once again at the expense of civil society that we do not stop thinking about the well-being of each and every one of the people who are part of the social diversity that we make up. The Ministry of Education works oblivious to these realities, deaf, dumb and blind to the suffering that hundreds of schoolchildren still suffer today, who either feel excluded or feel rejected by an obsolete "normality". We demand inclusive educational environments that promote knowledge and respect for LGTBI individuals and families.
