| An extensive program of actions, free of charge, that promotes the active use of free time and entertainment for the elderly in times of pandemic | The Council of Social Services of the Cartagena City Council begins this week the â € ˜onlineâ € ™ activities for the elderly for this winter.
After the success of last quarter, with more than 600 registered seniors, numerous and varied online activities are launched, all free of charge, aimed at promoting the active use of free time, in order to to make this situation that we are going through with the Covid-19 health crisis more enjoyable for the elderly. The activities, which are part of the Active Aging Program of the Seniors Unit, will be sent daily to those registered, although the general public will also have access through social networks and TeleCartagena. It is a wide varied program of activities related to health, personal development, computing, manual skills, culture or literature, as well as festive celebrations on indicated days such as Valentine's Day or Carnival.
All this, without leaving home, and with the aim of keeping the elderly active, both physically and psychically, as well as having fun. The active workshops stand out, from Monday to Friday, and which begin this Wednesday, January 20, with different themes for each day: On the training Mondays, videos on a variety of topics will be broadcast.
This quarter on mental health, memory training, consumption and safety. On Cultural Tuesdays there will be two workshops, the Reading Workshop, to analyze and comment on the book "The Seamstress of Words".

And the Workshop A Walk through your City, a virtual guided tour of the main museums of the city, tourist routes, legends and curiosities of the city.
This quarter we will discover the Aguirre Palace, the Archaeological Museum, the Cartagena of then and now, or the Monument to the Processionist. The creative Wednesdays will be dedicated to the â € œCraft Workshopâ € ?? to encourage creativity, imagination or patience. As a novelty, this quarter is introduced on dynamic Thursdays, with the weekly broadcast of a Gerontogimnasia workshop, which promotes physical exercise for its direct benefit on the physical and mental health of the elderly.
The activity is accompanied by advice and messages of encouragement from elite athletes of the Region in these times of pandemic. Another novelty is the flavor Fridays, with traditional cooking workshops, which will be combined with the â € œEscuela de Alimentaci�n Correctâ € workshop, to give guidelines for healthy and balanced eating and the properties of food . It is also planned that a Course on Smartphone and Tablets will be given, to train the elderly free of charge in the proper use of these technologies, and their practical application for daily life and especially in this � ½time of confinement.
