| Pedestrians and cyclists have guaranteed passage during the works, while motor vehicles will have to deviate along Avenida V ½ctor Beltr and the A-30 motorway to access the Cabezo Beaza industrial estate | The works to improve the Torreciega bridge will begin next Wednesday, January 20.
The work will have an execution period of three months.
During that time, this route to motor vehicle traffic will be cut off.
Although, the passage of cyclists and pedestrians is guaranteed.
The total cost of the remodeling is € 155,000.
The deputy mayor of Cartagena and councilor for the Social Welfare Area, Noelia Arroyo, stressed that "the works have as their first objective to improve safety for pedestrians." This infrastructure connects the Cartagena population with the urban core, being a direct link with the Cabezo Beaza industrial estate.
It is used daily by about 5,000 vehicles, including more than 350 heavy vehicles.
The authorities recommend two alternative routes for drivers of cars, trucks and motorcycles: One on Victor Beltr Avenue and the other on the A-30 motorway. Arroyo stressed that "the works are important for the residents, who have been demanding more security on the bridge for a long time, but they are also important for the mobility of Cartagena because the bridge connects the urban area with the municipalities of La Puebla and La Aparecida ". The work consists of improving the sidewalk of the bridge and the pavement of the highway, the RM-F35, which connects Cartagena with the municipality of San Javier.
New high energy efficiency led lighting lamps will also be installed, as well as a bionda between the sidewalk and the road to increase the safety of pedestrians. The Councilor for Infrastructure of the City of Cartagena, Mara Casajs, met this week with the Director General of Roads of the Region of Murcia, Jos Antonio Fernndez.
The meeting served to coordinate, together with technicians from both institutions, the alternative routes of circulation and the works carried out by the Autonomous Community, as it is a highway of regional competence.
In fact, this administration already carried out in the summer of 2019 repair work on the bridge's metal railing and improvements in the drainage system of the road worth 150,000 euros. The contracting of the works was confirmed to the residents last August during a visit to its president, Teodosio Romero, by the deputy mayor and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Jos Ramn Dez de Revenga , the councilor of the Decentralization Area, Diego Ortega and the district councilor, Irene Ruiz.
