| The mayor of Cartagena has warned that the situation of the pandemic is very serious and the collapse of the health system must be prevented | The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Bel�n Castej�n, has appeared this morning, Thursday, January 14, to inform the citizens of the new measures that the City Council is going to implement to prevent the curve of COVID 19 infections continue to increase in the municipality. The first of these measures is to suspend all those municipal face-to-face activities that are not considered absolutely essential. â € œWe are going to adopt all the measures that are in our hands to help curb the contagion curve.

We are promoting teleworking in the City Council and we are going to suspend all face-to-face activities that are not essential to help reduce social relationships, since the important thing is to save lives and prevent contagions from spreading, â € ?? said Castejï¿.

In this sense, the municipal services that are going to remain open are all those that offer attention to the public, such as Tax Management, General Registry, Treasury, Statistics, the Center of Attention to Victims of Gender Violence (CAVI), Social Services, Traffic and OMITAS, which will operate by appointment and with all the guarantees of safety and health. Likewise, the Municipal Infant Schools will also remain open, â € œas it is a fundamental service to facilitate family conciliationâ € ??. On the other hand, the cultural activities that were planned in person will be carried out electronically and those that cannot be adapted to this format will be postponed. As for the municipal libraries, they will remain open, but only for the loan of books, which means that they cannot be used as study rooms. Most of the museums and interpretation centers in Cartagena Puerto de Culturas are closed until February, so the mayor has indicated that â € œwe will wait to see how the health situation evolves before to adopt new decisions about its opening. Sports activities that the City Council carries out with its own monitors, nor municipal schools, will also be affected, as we have planned for mid-January.

In addition, as Castej�n has advanced, â € œwe are awaiting the decisions that the General Directorate of Sports may adopt for those facilities that are used for team training in regional competitions.

The competitions regulated by the Higher Sports Council continue to be developed, strictly following the health protocols imposed by the different Spanish Federations. The centers for the elderly and women will remain closed, as well as the premises of the neighborhood associations, in which only the Omitas will remain active, since they offer a fundamental administrative service that prevents travel to the city to the neighbors of our councils. The courses at the Popular University will be telematic and those that cannot be adapted will eventually be suspended. The playgrounds will be closed to the public to avoid social relations. The markets are also limited, following what is established in the regional regulations, reinforcing the police presence and the sanitary security guarantees. In addition, the public agendas of the councilors are suspended as of today, although municipal activity is maintained online. The first mayor has finished her speech by calling on the public to self-define: â € œStay at home and go out only what is strictly necessary.

The health situation is very serious, the worst we have experienced so far, and we cannot allow the health system to collapse.
