COEC joins the request made by the Governing Council of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena requesting more budget from the Government of the Autonomous Community The budget cut puts at risk the incorporation of the UPCT to the exclusive group of "European Universities" The Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena, through its representative in the Social Council of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, has learned that the UPCT has been forced, for the first time in six years, to present a reduced budget for 2021.

In view of this, COEC joins the demands that the Social Council of the UPCT has made to the regional government requesting an increase in budget aid through a multi-year financing plan.

In Ana Correa's statements, "if we want to have leading businessmen and young entrepreneurs who generate employment, as well as well-trained professionals to reach the most qualified jobs, we need quality training, and this requires funds enough to have a first-rate teaching staff, who train our university students with the levels of excellence that the new times require ".

The complex financial reality of the UPCT and the uncertainty scenarios at the regional, national and European levels as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, together with the end of the financial framework preset by the CARM for the period 2016-2020, may prevent the adoption of forceful measures that consolidate the budgetary scenario for the coming years.

All this puts the young University of Cartagena in a situation of fragility and risk never before experienced, just at the moment when the Region of Murcia has a historical opportunity to place the UPCT, at the end of 2023, in the restricted group of European Universities, an initiative promoted by the European Commission.

For this reason, from COEC we support all the demands made by the Social Council of the UPCT so that the Cartagena university obtains sufficient funding to ensure its viability and growth.

For the Confederation, it is an obligation to support the university institution, in order to enhance and protect the heritage that the Polytechnic University of Cartagena represents for the Region of Murcia, playing a key role in achieve that our companies and society reach higher levels of development and wealth.
