Sister Teresa Ortega, mother superior of the Hermanitas de los Pobres residence, this morning collected the donation of 3,827 euros raised by the solidarity initiative 'Drop by drop' from the staff of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
The 362 UPCT employees who contribute one euro a month to this fund have chosen by vote that this year the beneficiaries will be the sixty residents of this nursing home. The donation will be used to cover the maintenance and consumption of heating in the building this winter.
"This year has been very difficult and with the extraordinary expenses of protection against the coronavirus, we did not have the money to carry out necessary repairs in our heating systems," explained the Mother Superior. This year there have been ten candidatures for the 'Drop by drop' initiative, sponsored by UPCT staff.
That of the Little Sisters of the Poor was the most voted.
In second and third place were the Children's Home and the Food Bank.
Last year the donation went to Asido Cartagena; in 2018, for the Spanish Association Against Cancer and in 2017, for the Children's Social Dining Room of C ritas San Diego. The Little Sisters of the Poor is a non-profit religious congregation, whose apostolate is the comprehensive care of poor elderly people.
They defend the culture of life and live by Divine Providence without receiving subsidies of any kind.
The candidacy of the Little Sisters of the Poor has been sponsored by Marta Romero, Susana Marmol, Puri Cayuela, Carmen Hern ndez, Lola de la Cañina, Raquel Leon and Guadalupe S nchez. Currently, there are 362 UPCT employees adhering to the 'Drop by drop' program.
The groups that have been nominated in this edition have been the Casa Cuna de Cartagena, the Alzheimer Association Cartagena and AFAL region, the Little Sisters of the Poor, the Traperos de Ema s; the Food Bank of the Region of Murcia, the Spanish Federation of Rare Diseases, the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cartagena and its Region, Autismo Somos Todos, Ingenier a Sin Fronteras and the Asociaci n of Ostomizados of Cartagena.
