The cloister of the UPCT, the highest representative body of the university community, has elected Professor Andr s Perales Ag era as the new university defender this morning.
The teacher Antonio Guillam n Frutos also attended the position and the voting was carried out electronically. Perales Ag era, until now director of the Department of Mining and Civil Engineering, was secretary general of the UPCT and director of the Technical School of Mines.
"I will take advantage of my experience and knowledge of the institution to help those who have problems," he assured after his election. The new university defender intends to "spread a university culture based on ethics" and carry out his functions "following the principles of justice before law, humanity before bureaucracy and authority before power." The objective of the university ombudsman is to ensure the rights and freedoms of the entire university community, both students, teachers and administration and services personnel, through mediation, advice and recommendations to the Government team of the University.
"Claims to different interpretations of the regulations", predicts that they will be the first issues that will have to deal with, although it also offers its willingness to help in more serious matters such as possible situations of harassment. "As a student in the pre-democratic university, I knew the injustices of a system in which nothing could be claimed," he recalled, highlighting the importance of the figure of the university defender.
