The objective of these works has been to restore this piece of artillery from the 19th century. “The restoration of this cannon is one more step towards showing off the Christmas Fort.
Undoubtedly, the result of these works is a great motivation to visit this environment, ”said the mayor and president of Cartagena Puerto de Culturas, Ana Bel n Castej n. The treatments have been carried out in different phases.
The first was cleanliness, one of the most important in the restoration of a piece.
In this phase, the layers of paint and primer applied over the years were removed by chemical and mechanical cleaning, something that has been carried out in a controlled, gradual and selective manner. Later, the consolidation process was developed: resin was used to seal cracks and then the inhibition process was carried out. Subsequently, one of the most important restorative treatments has been carried out.
It is the application of a film to protect the barrel from external agents.
