One hundred and eighty seconds to conquer the audience and win the contest "Thesis in 3 minutes" (09/12/2020)

Eight researchers, doctoral students and recent doctorates, from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena are preparing to conquer a non-specialized audience in 180 seconds in the final of the 'Thesis in 3 minutes' competition, which is held this Thursday at the UPCT.The jury of the contest will assess in the final the ability of the candidates to synthesize to highlight in three minutes the relevance and objectives of their research, as well as the rigor of the data presented and the ability to convey to the public the interest towards their thesis.Four prizes will be awarded for the best communications of the research work.

The first prize is endowed with 800 euros; the second, with 600; the third, with 500, in addition to a second prize with 200 euros.In this first edition, the finalists were Cristian Sánchez Rodríguez, Francisca Marco Cutillas, Mara Barón Yusti, Ana Fernández Guillamón, José Sebastián Velázquez Blázquez, Carlos Alberto Toledo Arias, Patricio Rubén Ortega Lara and Kerras Hayet.

Six of the competitors are engineers, one of them an architect and, among them, a graduate.

Two are international students. The 3MT® competition was originally developed in 2008 by the University of Queensland (Australia) as an exercise for doctoral students to cultivate their academic, presentation and communication skills of research results.

Since then, different universities around the world have replicated this initiative.The International Doctoral School (EINDOC) of the Polytechnic of Cartagena has called the contest for the first time with the aim of publicizing the work that doctoral students carry out or have recently completed, explains the director of EINDOC Pedro Sánchez Palma. We can see how they synthesize with informative vocabulary research works in the field of food technology, new materials and prosthetics in the field of health, renewable energy, studies on gender gaps, and hydraulic dams in civil engineering.The event and the awards ceremony for the contest winners can be followed in streaming on the UPCTtv channel starting at 11:00 this Thursday, December 10.

The broadcast will take place from the Isaac Peral graduation room, on the CIM Campus, headquarters of the Faculty of Business Sciences and the School of Architecture and Building.
