The Ceremony Room of the City Hall of Cartagena has hosted this noon, on the occasion of the International Volunteering Day that is celebrated every December 5, an act of public recognition of the voluntary action developed by collectives and entities of the municipality that were essential in the emergency device implemented by the City Council during the state of alarm.
The UPCT Vice-Rector for Students, Sergio Amat, has collected a badge, on behalf of all the Region's universities and other training centers, for the voluntary work carried out by students in tele-accompaniment tasks with the elderly.
Fifty hundred students from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena participated from April to August in the tele-accompaniment projects of the City Council and AFAL.Currently there are a dozen students from the UPCT who continue to collaborate as volunteers calling people who live alone selected by the social services of the Consistory."Participating in volunteer actions is not only beneficial for those who receive them, but it is the most comforting that can be carried out on a personal level," Amat stressed during the event.
"Helping others is priceless," added the vice-rector.
