| This year's awards for voluntary commitment have become a collective recognition of those who gave their grain of sand altruistically during the state of alarm | The City Hall of Cartagena has hosted this morning the act in which the International Day of Volunteering has been commemorated, which is celebrated every December 5, and in which the awards with which the City Council rewards each year have been delivered the selfless work of people, entities or groups. At the ceremony this morning, which was chaired by the mayor Ana Bel n Castej n, and which was attended by the deputy mayor and councilor for the Social Services area, Noelia Arroyo, the delegate councilor for Social Services , Mercedes Garc a G mez, and the spokespersons of the rest of the parties with municipal representation, have been granted to the participating groups in the devices for the distribution of food and basic necessities, tele-accompaniment for the elderly and care na homeless people. This edition has been marked by the great social and health crisis caused by the coronavirus during this year 2020 and the implication, work, commitment and effort on the part of each and every one of the social entities of this municipality, in helping the most needy and vulnerable groups, in order to avoid a situation of exclusion and promote social and egalitarian justice in the face of the seriousness of the crisis that occurred. Mayor Ana Bel n Castej n stressed that it was “impossible to choose a person, entity or institution because all of you have turned to helping, not only the City Council, but the entire society, in one of the most difficult moments that we have had to live.
For this reason, we have opted for a collective recognition, destined to all academic entities, organisms and institutions and, especially, to the volunteers, who jointly collaborated and were essential in the different devices launched by this City Council during the state alarm ”. The awards have been: - In the Device for the distribution of food and basic necessities: Food Bank, association of Solidarity in Action of Cartagena (Sena), C ritas Di cesis of Cartagena, Red Cross, Ancora Group, association Hogar el Buen Samaritano and National association Proyecto Abrah m. -In the Tele-accompaniment Device for the elderly: Fundaci n Fade, Implica2 Program, Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), University of Murcia, ISEN, UCAM and Hermanos Pesqueros Foundation. -In the Homeless Attention Device: Colectivo la Huertecica, Hospitalidad Santa Teresa and C ritas Cartagena. Many of these entities, as well as several public institutions in the educational field, were essential in Cartagena during the state of alarm, making all their available human and technical resources available to the City Council, so that they could be put into action.
The devices for the distribution of food and basic necessities are marched, accompaniment of the elderly through the telecompaniment program, and attention to the homeless group.
