| The works that began last week have a budget of about 184,000 euros and are made from the surplus of the water concessionaire | The three main streets of the center of Pozo Estrecho will become semi-pedestrianized once the renovation works of the drinking water and sanitation network that began last week and that have a budget of 183,815.49 euros,charged to the surplus of the water concession company.The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has come this morning, together with the president of the Neighborhood Board, Rosa Fernández, to check the progress of the works, which are being carried out in the streets of Mayor, Ponce de León, Gran Captain, Juan Díaz de Solís, Pedrerías de Ávila and Juan Grijalba.Castejón explained that “the drinking water networks in all these streets are made of fiber cement and very narrow, which causes flooding when it rains with relative intensity.

In addition, we comply with the new rule that requires the withdrawal ofall the fiber cement pipes as soon as possible ”.It should be noted that the collectors are also very old and are very deteriorated, which is why municipal technicians have detected water leaks that cause both the subsidence of part of the sidewalk and dampness in the road.“Given that to renew the sanitation network they had to lift the asphalt and most of the sidewalks, the technical direction of the City Council has chosen to gain space for pedestrians by converting some of them into semi-pedestrianized areas, which will also help businesses so much that they will be able to ask for terraces and to the general public who will have more recreation areas ”, the mayor has indicated.The execution period for the work is two months and from then on Mayor, Juan Grijalba and Juan Díaz de Solís streets will be semi-pedestrianized.
