| The Minister of Employment, Research and Universities sent a letter to Minister Manuel Castells to request that the intention to leave the Region without the headquarters of the educational institution | The Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) will finally keep its headquarters in Cartagena open, as reported by this institution to the Minister of Employment, Research and Universities, Miguel Motas, who celebrates a decision "more than correct, since Cartagena and the Region of Murcia deserve no other option, except to preserve an institution that amply demonstrates its solvency and usefulness.

" Since he learned of the intention of the national government to close some headquarters, including the Cartagena, Motas became interested in the reasons and made himself available to the UIMP to help solve possible problems and avoid closure.

"Our conviction that the headquarters should be maintained is total, so we ask its board of trustees, of which the national government is part, to maintain it," he said. Likewise, he sent a letter to the Minister of Universities, Manuel Castells, in which he expressed his disagreement with the announced closure and highlighted the "repercussion of the presence of students from all over the world in a historical and so important city of the Mediterranean Arc and its impact economic and foreign promotion of Cartagena and the Region for its synergies with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and its agreements with professional associations and numerous public and private institutions ".

He added that the UIMP "contributes to consolidate the cultural and academic agenda of a city in constant transformation." After the minister assured to be in contact with the rector of the UIMP "to find alternatives that avoid the closure of the Cartagena headquarters, a decision that is not firm, but only a possibility that we will try to reverse", it has finally been revoked the initial decision and the Cartagena headquarters will remain open. This headquarters, the only one of the UIMP in the Region of Murcia, teaches immersion courses in English throughout Spain, with an average of 1,000 students, scholarship holders from the Ministry, with a rating that exceeds 9 out of 10 and with different courses of postgraduate, together with the organization and celebration of different forums and international conferences.
